So....this game ASTRONEER....is in pre-ALPHA. All I have to say is that the pre-ALPHA for ASTRONEER is worlds better than most BETA's and even many full-release games I've played lately!   Think 'space-engineers' married to 'minecraft' wrapped up in the art style of 'no man's lie'.   http://astroneer.space/ On STEAM the almost 12 thousand reviews are 90% positive, and that's for a pre-ALPHA. http://store.steampowered....

Oooo baby!  Yes.....already pre-ordered.  You?    http://www.desertsofkharak.com/   While I was a bit disappointed in Homeworld 'remastered' due to the mash-up of mechanics since they combined some from HW1 and 2 (and I personally hated HW2) I am excited for this game.

For anyone who is even remotely a fan of FIREFLY.  This little SP of a gem released Oct 20th, I just got around to trying it out a few days ago.  Aside from the obvious firefly flavour it feels like Freelancer in some ways? It's DX11, has a fantastic soundtrack, comedic value and well combat is just FUN!    Oh......and it's $20 on STEAM!!!

Is it worth it?  Seeing as several retailers have been offering it at a substantial discount I finally picked one up.  Here are my concise thoughts.   CONS 1024x768 (what is this 2010?!?) 1.2 quad core somewhat weak processor 2 GB RAM 16 GB onboard storage (expandable via SD card)   PROS 1024x768 (while somewhat of a negative is also a positive in the sense that the tab a can get away with a weaker proc as well and t...

Thing is.....the game is great for sure........but what I find best about Anno 2070 is actually the game's UI.  I have played so many (too many) RTS/Strategy games in my life with (by comparison) absolutely horrible UI's so I just had to pause playing to post about it. UBI / BlueByte have done something really right with Anno 2070 and I hope it continues in Anno 2205.  The UI is fluid and informative without drowning you in unnecessary information.  I'm fi...

Just an interesting read. "What happens when a tech support scammer cold calls Emsisoft?"  http://blog.emsisoft.com/2014/08/29/what-happens-when-a-tech-support-scammer-cold-calls-a-security-expert/?ref=ticker140829&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_content=onlineversion&utm_campaign=ticker140829   One of the companies I deal with in regards to anti-malware software played with one of the 'Microsoft tech' scammers.  ...

Today I received yet another call from the toll-free number that has been calling me on and off (sometimes multiple times in one day) for several months.   I had answered a call from that number during the first month's assault on my digits (after 4 or 5 unanswered attempts) and determined they were a 'third-party' calling on behalf (supposedly) of my carrier.  They asked if I was satisfied with my 'plan' and if it 'met my current and future...

The Nokia Lumia 930 (while not a huge advancement over my existing 920) will likely be my next smartphone.  Will it also be the last of the lumia's though?  There is speculation that with Microsoft taking the reigns of Nokia's device manufacturing this phone could be the last 'Lumia'. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nokia-Lumia-930-and-630-Might-Be-the-Last-True-Lumia-Handsets-437380.shtml     More info on the 930: http://conversatio...

For years I had been building my own custom 'gaming rigs' (powerful desktop machines that required me to sit in my basement office whenever I felt like playing a game). Fast forward a few years with the advent of HDMI TV's and video cards/cables capable of connecting to them easily I began my exodus from the 'basement dungeon'.  My wife and kids began finding my powerful desktop gaming rigs sitting in the family and/or living room(s).  Suddenly the...

The first game ( 'PAYDAY : The Heist' ) was epic 4-player coop fun (of course it was almost a direct copy of Left 4 Dead if you replace the 'survivors' with a group of thieves and the 'zombies' with police...hehe)...........this one will be even more epic........oh and speaking of 'epicness'.......the soundtrack.......wow....the soundtrack to the original was/is still one of the best in-game soundtracks since the pinnacle of game soundtracks (Homeworld ...

I have received the email referenced in the blog-post linked above.   It indicates that anyone having registered their copy of SimCity before March 25, may claim a free game from EA before March 30th.   Those of you with SimCity 5, check your email.....     Here is a second link with additional information:   http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9378384.page

So last night I decided to see if my old notebook from 2005 would be able to handle Windows 8 Pro.   With some minor issues I was able to get it installed and working quite well.   Hardware: Dell Inspiron 6000 1.6Ghz Intel Pentium M centrino (533MHz FSB) 2 GB 533Mhz DDR2 RAM 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) display  -  I sooooo miss this res on newer notebooks........sigh! 128 MB ATI Mobility X300 video chip 160GB 5400rpm HD 1st gen N...

...it is 1975.  The cold-war has just morphed into the beginnings of WWIII.   Amidst a 1980's electric guitar peppered soundtrack and the snap, crackle and pop of various machine-gun and cannon sounds you take control of the forces of either NATO or the Warsaw Pact.   It is the game R.U.S.E. could/should have been.  By the same developers (Eugen) but no longer published by Ubisoft the game currently has an SP campaign (which is really just a tutorial) and MP (...

The second installment of Red Orchestra by studio Tripwire Interactive is about to be released on STEAM (Sept. 13th/11).  The first one was amazing (I've often referred to it as the "Flashpoint / ARMA" of the WWII FPS genre) a more realism-focused shooter for those tired of running around with the twitch-kiddies in games like COD etc. Follow the "external link" at the top to a thread on the Tripwire forums that explains pretty much everything there is to know about RO 2. ...
