Oooo baby!  Yes.....already pre-ordered.  You?

While I was a bit disappointed in Homeworld 'remastered' due to the mash-up of mechanics since they combined some from HW1 and 2 (and I personally hated HW2) I am excited for this game.

Game looks a bit poor. I dont like the icons, but with a bit gameplay maybe i will change my thoughts.

So I've now played the game a bit and here's what I've found.

DoK is predictably 'homeworld'.  Which is to say, that any fan of the 1999 Game of the Year will definitely find "more of the same" both in story and in gameplay.  The game is seriously light on MP content (yes it is sad to see that there is no option to play the campaign with a bud in coop), only 5 fairly small maps and the AI is pretty lacking.  Another thing I've noticed is that there is a fairly large discrepancy in terms of graphical fidelity between the SP and MP maps.  This is of course to be expected for various reasons (ie. balance, performance etc.) but I'm sure some people (who may only be interested in the MP) saw the pre-release 'marketing screenies/videos' and are now thinking where are the sand/atmospheric effects we saw pre-release?  Well.......they are there........in SP!

Thinking back to 1999 and how the original felt/played (back then)........this is definitely more of the same.  Personally, I love it.

I'm sure that at some point (hopefully sooner rather than later) there will be more maps, I'm sure the devs will at some point allow us to rebind keys, not have the mouse pointer change position when rotating the camera and for bloody sake if I'm not in 3D space at least let me set UNIT FACING so my shit doesn't keep getting blasted in the ASS!

All in all, a positive experience for me so far.....

I played it yesterday.  It is definitely an enjoyable experience if you're a Homeworld fan, it really captures its spirit.

The game revolves around its story and campaign from what I could say.  Any question that this game competes with Ashes is now over, they are completely different genres.

Anyone who likes RTS should be ecstatic over both. We've had such a dry spell and now have deserts and ashes both! I agree they do not really compete in any way. One is small scale, tactical, more micro focused with a short story campaign. The other is large scale, more macro with a, what seems to be, more Risk-like conquer the galaxy type SP campaign. Personally I play RTS mainly for MP so I've hedged my bets, got both, and hopefully at least one of them will give me those golden 1000+ hours of competing online.

Ok here it goes.

Crap disappointed and just a money grab. if you like crappy animay you will love the intro movie. I mean like what year are we in 2016 or 1996 even CnC had some B rate actors back in the day. Coded by 2nd rate coders same home-world game code just on the ground. graphics detail ... were is it for a game developed in 2016 my pc stayed ice cold for the duration of the game and i had it all MAXED,  what you call detail LAME AI? stupid as all Crap My dog is smarter ... put ip a few turrets down, park your carrier in the center and go for a coffee and collect kills ... Really .... you call that an AI... on Hardest setting.

ASHES has AI that's called an AI units look like CnC Quality Lame, game play predictable total waste of money i should have waited to play a demo or something... wow anyone want a free game its taking up wasted space in my steam library. Maps none garbage no editor not worth the money. This is my View it does not reflect others but what a dam waste of money. its nothing like Ashes just a money grab from the hype of homeworld. i guess that's why the gave a huge discount and or gave away the home world collection if you pre-ordered it they NEW everyone would be Pissed at the Crap they tried to pass of as a state of the art game lol its not even DX12 does not support infinity and wont go over 1920 x 1080 (maybe a little higher) i run my games in 5780 X 1080P HD and if the game allows it 9800 X 1080P HD  its not even HD,

I could go on with this Blah Blah Blah but its not worth my time.... ill wait for Ashes and star citizen these are games of the new era keep up the good work guys ....

You should have played the campaign, cause thats where its at, when it comes to Homeworld.

Additionally there is more to graphics than just whether its DX11 or 12 or how many pixels it supports, you know, there is this thing called STYLE, and Homeworld has plenty of that. It may not be technologically as advanced as Ashes, but does not really look worse. Crap animations? You cant be serious.

I wont argue about multiplayer not being all that great, i am yet to play it myself and Skirmish AI is obviously broken {there was a patch, maybe its fixed by now)... it looks the factions are bit too similar too, which is disappointing too... so its not perfect for sure...

bottom line, if you bought this game strictly for multiplayer and now complain about it being money grab, cause its focus is elsewhere, you have only yourself to blame.

TBH All of the Homeworld games have been about the Single Player experience. With MP being after thoughts, or just shoehorned in. Deserts of Kharak seems to be no exception.

For those like me that do not play multiplayer this is just fine. There really needs to be more Single Player focused story line games.

I'm not going to say DoK is a "great" RTS, because it is not. I rate it as an "average" RTS. There are far better RTS's out there. However i did enjoy the campaign. The game play, and atmosphere got Homeworld spot on. Basically the game looks and plays just like Homeworld 2. Except its on the ground. Which is kind of weird until you get used to it.

Where DoK really shines is in its story mode, music, and artwork. Sure there was some glitches, and bad game play choices (like a total lack of facing, and formations), but overall i think its a good game.

If you never played any of the Homeworld games before i would suggest to play Homeworld Classic before you invest in DoK. This game does really seem like it was made only for the Homeworld fans, and if you are a fan of Homeworld then you will definitely like DoK. If you never played HW then i can see how things would be confusing. If you are looking for a MP experience then you bought the WRONG game.

I am amazed at how some people STILL blindly invest in, or pre-order a game knowing absolutely nothing about it. Then get angry that it was not what they expected it to be, and demand a refund. If you know nothing about it do some research first, or wait until after its released, and the reviews are in before wasting your money.
